Education

 The Oscar Blackburn School is operated by Frontier School Division. It is staffed by the principal, a viceprincipal, 17 teachers and numerous support staff.

 Health Care

Medicalresponse is based on a federal nursing station staffed by three nurses and twocommunity health workers, with a five bed capacity. The community also qualifiesfor Patient Transport assistance.

Police

Policeresponse is from the Leaf Rapids detachment RCMP, phone (204) 473-2469. Thereis also two community constables who respond in the community.

Fire Protection

Firefighting capability is based on a pumper truck and equipment from the communityfire hall. Portable forestry equipment is also available for grass and brushfires.

Water supply

Water is drawn from the ChurchillRiver system via wet-well intake to the pump house. It is then putthrough a package treatment plant and chlorinated. The major buildings in thecommunity core area are connected to a distribution system. Residences areserved by truck delivery.

Electricity

Provided by Manitoba Hydro as land- line electricpower.

Sewage Disposal

Most residences have sewage pump out, which is thenhauled for treatment in an sequencing batch reactor (SBR) sewage treatmentplant.

Communications

Manitoba Telecom Services provides individual-lineservice and digital switching installation with toll-free calling to LeafRapids and Nelson House.

Transportation

-         Manitoba Transportation and Government Services,Northern Airports operate a 2,600' x 100' crushed rock airstrip with terminaland remote-controlled lighting about 1 mile north of the community. Office islocated in Winnipeg,phone (204) 945-3421, or airport manager, phone (204) 374-2225.

-         Manitoba Transportation and Government Services,Marine Services operate the ferry MV Charles Robert on an hourly schedulebetween South IndianLake and South Bay.Office is in Winnipeg,phone (204) 945-3424.

-         Both Gardewine North and Horbas Transfer providefreight services to South Indian Lakevia all weather road to Leaf Rapids and either barge from South Bayor winter road, in season.

-         Calm Air provides scheduled services to Lynn Lakeand Thompson.

-         Calm Air and Skyward provide charter services.

-         Clee's Taxi provides local transportation services.
